BEFORE HOMOSEXUALS: THE PREQUEL TO BEFORE STONEWALL

This event is FREE! There will be no tickets sold. Seating is first-come, first-serve.

John Scagliotti; 2017; USA; 87 min. in English, French, Japanese with English subtitles

Prior to the 1990s, it was considered taboo to research queer history from before the twentieth century.  Through a series of interviews with experts, historians, and scholars, Emmy-winning filmmaker John Scagliotti unearths erotic history, poetry, and visual art,  including lesbian love spells from ancient Rome, the homoerotic verses of Michelangelo, censored chapters of the Kamasutra, Native American two-spirit rituals, and more. A fascinating look at homosexuality “from ancient times to Victorian crimes,” BEFORE HOMOSEXUALS proves that homosexuality transcends every time period, socioeconomic class, geographic region, religion, and race. This may be the closest thing we have to Queer History 101.
